Along with U. S. Senator Hattie Caraway (1878-1950), first female elected to the U. S. Senate, other prominent burials at Oaklawn include her husband, U. S. Senator Thaddeus Caraway (Oct. 17, 1871-Nov. 6, 1931); William Henderson Cate (1839-1899) U. S. Congressman from 1889-1893; Francis Adams Cherry (Sept. 5, 1908-July 15, 1965), Arkansas governor from 1953-1955; and Sammy Lee Creason (Nov. 27, 1944-Dec. 21, 1955), a drummer who worked with artists including Tony Joe White, Kris Kristofferson, Dr. John, Sonny Burgess, Bob Dylan, Alber Collins, Sam and Dave, The Dixie Flyers and many more.  Creason also appeared in small parts in the films, “Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid,” “A Star is Born,” and “Convoy.”
