Monroe County Loop-Great River Road

This is an official route off the Great River Road National Scenic Byway.  The loop through Monroe County takes visitors on an historic journey that includes the Louisiana Purchase State Park Monument, marking the site of the starting point for the survey of all lands acquired through the Louisiana Purchase, and historic railroad towns and river towns, which clearly mark the change in cultures as transportation switched from river to rail. The Central Delta Depot Museum captures much of this history, as well as an exhibit honoring Louis Jordan.  Also along this route is The Fargo Agricultural School, established in 1919 to educate African American students.
