Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery

Pete Mead (Jan. 11, 1924-July 2, 2007) is buried in this cemetery.  Mead was a well-known middleweight boxer in the 1940s. Born and raised in Trumann, his fight against Joey DeJohn on July 7, 1949, at Madison Square Garden was hailed by Ring Magazine as one of the ten greatest fights in the century. Although his last fight against Rocky Graziano in 1951 ended his 10-year career, he never lost interest in the boxing and was inducted into the Ohio Boxing Hall of Fame, Legends of Leather, in 1993. Along with Jim Bailey, Pete published a book in 1989 about his boxing career called Blood, Sweat and Cheers, The Pete Mead Story.
