John Weston Marker

Marker honors John Weston, born in 1927 in Lee County and recognized as a talented blues musician whose gift for songwriting made him unique among Delta blues musicians. Self-taught on the guitar and harmonica (blues harp), he didn’t begin playing publicly in and around Marianna until the 1970s. He was the winner of the Lucille Award (named after blues singer B.B. King’s infamous guitar) in 1989 and performed in the  U.S. and overseas.  He died in June 2005.
