John Handcox Marker

This marker is part of a series for the Arkansas Delta Music Trail: Sounds from the Soil and Soul.  Born and raised in the Arkansas Delta, John Handcox served as the minstrel of the Southern Tenant Farmers Union and the voice of southern sharecroppers as expressed through his songs and poems written for the union and the cause.  Visitors can also listen to Handcox’s songs in the adjacent museum and see the influence of music on the agricultural labor movement in the South. A stop on the African American Heritage Trail.
