West Memphis

Zack Bragg, a Mississippian, established a logging camp near the Mississippi river across from Memphis shortly before War World I. The logging camp was originally called Bragg's Spur, or Bragg. In 1927, after the city was incorporated, the name was changed to West Memphis in hopes of attracting foreign investors who payed premium prices for lumber in the Memphis market.
